Loona: the robot
Loona is a palm-sized wheeled robot with a 2.4-inch screen for a face, a depth camera, a four-microphone array, and a 5-TOPS AI processor. It recognizes faces and gestures, plays fetch and chase, dances, doubles as a home-monitoring camera through the app, and talks: open-ended voice conversation through GPT-4o, free at the time of writing. The Premium bundle ($439 on sale, $529 list; KEYi's own guide quoted $499 two days earlier) includes a dock it returns to on its own.
What you live with: about ninety minutes of battery, a preference for hard flat floors, motor noise, voice recognition that owners describe as hit-and-miss, and the fact that its intelligence is in the cloud. Moflin: the creature
Moflin is a 260-gram ball of fur with no face and no eyes. It chirps, coos, and wriggles its head, and over about fifty days it develops what Casio calls a personality — more than four million emotional states, all computed on the device. There is no cloud; voice data is converted to non-identifiable signals locally. The optional MofLife app shows a mood diary over Bluetooth. A deep-sleep mode silences it.
What you live with: a five-hour battery and a charging bed, an audible motor whine, fragility (not for rough handling, young children, or a real cat), and movement limited to the head. TechCrunch's reviewer, after a month, called its AI "not much more advanced than a Furby" and still found it oddly comforting. Pick Loona if
- The buyer is a family, a child over eight, or an adult who wants tricks and conversation.
- You have hard floors and reliable Wi-Fi, and someone comfortable with an app.
- You accept that the AI features depend on KEYi's servers.
Pick Moflin if
- You want something that feels alive on the sofa, not a gadget on the floor.
- You do not want an app, an account, or a cloud dependency.
- There are no small children or real pets around to break it.
Pick neither if
